The MetaMask Wallet extension does not support NFT. Therefore, you cannot actually see the NFT in the MetaMask browser extension. However, you can see your NFT’s voice on it.
To view your TPNs, you must use the MetaMask mobile app.
The MetaMask mobile app will display the NPTs in the «NFT«.
MetaMask has released a feature called “Automatic NFT detection«.
Enabling the NFT detection feature will automatically show your NFT from OpenSea. However, this feature is currently only for «Ethereum Mainnet«.
If you can’t see your NPTs even after turning on MetaMask’s auto-detect feature, or want to see your NFTs or NFTs from Polygon or Binance Smart Chain from markets other than OpenSea, you need to add those NFTs manually.
How to view NFT in MetaMask Wallet?
To see NFT in MetaMask, you must enable the “NFT auto-detect” feature«.
If this doesn’t work, you need to copy the contract address and NFT token ID from the listing page.
Then download the MetaMask mobile app and tap «Import NFTs«.
Then paste the address and ID of the NFT contract to import it.
You can now view your NFT in the MetaMask Wallet app.
Steps to view NFT in MetaMask
- Enable the “NFT auto-detect” function
- Copy the NFT contract address and token ID
- Install the MetaMask mobile app
- change to the “NFT” tab
- Paste the address and contract ID
1. Enable the “NFT auto-detect” function
To enable the “NFT auto-detect” function, go to “Setting» in the MetaMask mobile app.
Then touch «security and privacy» and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Now, you should see the options «Enable OpenSea API” Y “Automatic NFT detection«.
Swipe “toggle” from both options to turn on auto-detect.
Now, go to the «NFT» to view your TNPs.
In case you can’t see your NPTs there, you need to follow the steps below to add them manually.
2. Copy the NFT contract address and token ID
To find and copy your NFT’s contract address, you need to go to the listing page.
You may have purchased this NFT from OpenSea, Rarible, or one of the better NFT marketplaces. Go to the NFT marketplace where you purchased your NFT.
In this article, I will be using the OpenSea NFT marketplace as my NFT is on it.
Once you have gone to the NFT marketplace website, you need to link your wallet to locate your NFT.
To connect MetaMask to OpenSea, you can refer to this detailed article.
After establishing the connection, you must enter the section “collected» by clicking «profile icon«.
Then click on your NFT and scroll down a bit to get to the tab «Details«.
Now, expand the «Details” to copy “Contract Address» and «token id«.
You can also locate your NFT without linking your wallet by searching for the exact ID or name of your NFT.
3. Install the MetaMask mobile app
If you have already installed the MetaMask mobile app, you can skip this step.
The MetaMask app is available for Android and iOS.
After installation, if you already have a MetaMask account, tap «Import using secret Recovery Phrase«.
If you don’t have an account, you need to create a MetaMask account by tapping «Create a new wallet«.
The MetaMask account creation process will consist of two steps: setting a new password and backing up the restore phrase.
4. Switch to the «NFT«
By default, after installation, you will be in the “Ethereum mainnet«.
be sure that switch to the same network than your NFT.
If your NFT is on Polygon, it must be on the Polygon Mainnet. If you want, you can refer to these articles on how to add networks to MetaMask: Add Polygon Network to MetaMask or Add BSC Network to MetaMask.
Now, by default, you will be in the «Tokens”. However, you need to switch to the «NFT«.
5. Paste the address and contract ID
Now you will see the option «Import NFTs» at the bottom of the NFT page.
You should now paste «contract address» and «token id» that you copied in step 1.
Finally, touch «to import«.
Touching the option to importyou will be able to see your NFT in the «NFT«.
Note: Some of the NFTs may not display correctly. However, you can see its existence.
Viewing your TPNs in MetaMask has been made easy with a “NFT auto-detect” feature«. However, this feature is only intended for the Ethereum network.
There may be a chance that your NFT is not visible in MetaMask even after you turn on the NFT auto-detect feature or if your NFT is not Ethereum-based or you have purchased NFT other than openSea marketplace.
In these cases, you must import it manually as described in this article (Step 2-Step 5).
1. Why can’t I activate the “NFT Auto Detect” feature in MetaMask?
The function “NFT Auto Detect» in MetaMask relies entirely on the OpenSea API and will not be available when the API is disabled. So you need to enable «Enable OpenSea API» before activating the “NFT auto-detect” feature.
2. Why can’t I see the “NFT Auto Detect” feature on my MetaMask?
The “NFT Auto Detect” feature in metaMask will not be visible if:
- I’m on the MetaMask Wallet extension
- They are on networks other than «Ethereum Mainnet«
- You have not updated your MetaMask mobile app
The “Autodetect NFTs” feature in MetaMask is only available for the Ethereum network.
