Vivo Y35 Review: Attractive and Affordable

There is a new addition to the range of affordable Vivo smartphones. The Vivo Y35 model received a 90-Hz screen, a modern design, many cameras, a large battery, and even a headphone jack. What else can a gadget boast of?

Attractive and Affordable

Design features: Vivo Y35

The smartphone is available in two colors, Black Agate and Golden Dawn. And although the surface of the body shimmers in the rays of light with various patterns, the device looks expensive and neat, it does not slip in the hand. Its back side is matte, so fingerprints are not visible on it.

Modern trends dictate the rejection of narrowed sidewalls, rounded backs, and curved windows – here everything is wide and even. The edges are straight and flat, so even such a wide body is held firmly. Although due to the lack of narrowness, the gadget seems large. Here the choice is small: either elegance or practicality. In the case of the Vivo Y35, the developers went the second way, but the smartphone turned out to be surprisingly good and attractive.

The block with cameras fits well in terms of size, thickness, shape, and color, and the mirror substrate hides the volume of the protruding part. The circles of different-sized sensors are absolutely symmetrical, there is no randomness. In addition, they are placed in the corner, where they belong. After all, they do not overlap with your finger when shooting, as happens if the modules are installed in the center of the case.

The gadget is protected from dust and moisture according to the IP54 standard. Supports microSD memory cards. There are no complaints about the controls – the buttons are large, installed on one side. In addition, the scanner is not under the screen, but right in the power button. It works quickly and accurately.

Design features

Not forgotten, and 3.5 mm audio output for a wired headset. The device sounds both in headphones and through the speaker rich, loud and clear even at the maximum level. For the price, this is the best sound subsystem you could ever want. For wireless headphones, all the most popular Bluetooth profiles are supported up to aptX Adaptive.

How to shoot: Vivo Y35

There are three cameras on the back of the smartphone, a couple of others are two-megapixel, one is responsible for bokeh, and the second for macro.

How to shoot

The 50MP f/1.8 camera uses fast phase detection autofocus but no stabilization. The Vivo shooting control interface is convenient, although sometimes chaotic: some function or mode will definitely be transferred somewhere, set separately. In our case, for some reason, quick access to macro photography was brought to the front panel, although no less important options are collected in the “More” section, where the very place and macro mode is where you immediately try to find it.

The quality of photography corresponds to the status of the device. Autofocus does not fail in any conditions. The camera sometimes produces not the brightest and juiciest pictures, and the detail is sometimes not as high as we would like. In addition, there are noticeable overexposures in the white areas of the frame and blockages in the shadows, where details can be completely lost.

Overexposure usually appears in shooting mode with pixel binning – 12.5 megapixels. The system then raises the exposure, showing detail in the dark areas but losing detail in the light. It is unlikely that this is due to the dynamic range of the 50-megapixel matrix – most likely, this is a clumsy reaction of the image processor.

But the front camera of the smartphone is solid: it shoots in detail, works out the light and shadows completely, it can even slightly smooth out wrinkles – the automatic beautifier is on by default.

The gadget shoots video at about the same level as it takes pictures. The image is moderately detailed, with good sharpness, correct, and not oversaturated color reproduction. However, at maximum resolution, even with electronic stabilization connected, the image in dynamic scenes trembles. With stabilization, the picture looks worse, and in general, it is better to shoot static scenes with this camera – then the image will become clearer.

Autonomy

The 5000 mAh battery does not break capacity records, but given the not-very-bright screen and the average performance platform, the smartphone consumes the charge more or less economically. HD-quality video is continuously played on it for about 15 hours, you can achieve eight hours of play and, of course, a whole day of work without connecting to a power outlet. The battery is fully charged in 2 hours using the included 18W adapter.

Autonomy

Hardware and software

The Snapdragon 680 is responsible for performance – a relatively fresh chip, announced a year ago and manufactured using a 6-nanometer process technology. The video accelerator is the Adreno 610 GPU. The 4 GB LPDDR4X RAM can be virtually expanded by another 4 GB by allocating them from persistent storage.

Hardware and software

All this together produces more than 250 thousand points in the AnTuTu test. This is not much by today’s standards when the results of the flagships exceed one million points. Nevertheless, this performance is enough for the smooth operation of the interface and fast opening of applications. The smartphone, of course, is not for games, but it allows you to spend time with undemanding entertainment, such as Injustice 2.

The device is running Android 12 with a proprietary Funtouch 12 shell. In recent versions, it has been simplified and standardized, so that it is arranged as conveniently as a pure OS. In addition, it is possible to hide and not use pop-up virtual panels, detachable windows, and similar appendages. Although there will always be people who want to sit for several hours and customize everything for themselves, they will definitely like the set of interface features.
